Fiskardo is quite unique on Kefalonia in that it escaped almost unscathed from the earthquake in 1953 that ruined large parts of the rest of the island, this gives it an authentic Greek charm and makes it definitely worth a day trip to visit, even if you are coming from right down in Skala.

Fiskardo is the only part of Kefalonia that retains much of its original Venetian architecture, making it a really special place on the island to visit. A lot of the island's buildings were destroyed in the earthquake of 1953, as featured in the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
